CORON, PALAWAN - Day 1

This is my first Coron, Palawan Tour --- and consequently, my first time to ride a propeller plane. I must admit, I was a little scared the moment I saw the plane patiently waiting at the runway. And my fear was not abated when I buckled my seat belt and i felt close to panicking the moment the plane took off. It reminded me of several roller coaster rides I so forcibly took due to pressure from my friends. Don't get me wrong, I cannot remember ever afraid of flying, but this was certainly a first for me.

My shaking nerves eventually took a breather as the plane was maintaining its flying altitude and thanks, too, to the movie I was trying hard to watch to divert my attention. I was able to calm myself more so when the view of the islands started to appear through my plane window. Just as I was enjoying the sea and landscape view and was busy clicking my camera to capture aerial view of the islands, I was momentarily shocked when the plane started to prepare itself for landing. The Fancisco B. Reyes Airport of Busuanga is situated amidst several mountain ranges and as our van driver cum local tour guide said, located in the vastest ranch in the country.

From the airport, we proceeded straight to Restolane Port Area in the town proper of Coron to begin our Coron, Palawan Tour. First on our itinerary is the Kayangan Lake, known to be the cleanest lake in the country.

To get to Kayangan Lake, you must hike for at least twenty to thirty minutes. But no worries, since the way leading to Kayangan Lake has been paved with flat semi-concrete steps for the safety of the visitors.

There is a short stop over on the way to Kayangan Lake where you get to have this splendid view of the sea with outstanding limestone cliff formations.

This is me (my feet, that is) having the time of my life at Kayangan Lake (and wishing I could stay there longer, like forever!).

From Kayangan Lake, we set out for our next stop, the Twin Lagoon.

As the name implies, the Twin Lagoon consists of two lagoons separated by a wall of rock. During low tide, one can get to the other side of the lagoon through an opening at the base of the cliff. On high tides, however, you can either swim though the rock hole, or you can take the bamboo stairs provided where you can climb to get across to the other lagoon.

Swimming in the Twin Lagoon is really enjoyable as you experience warm and relaxing water one moment and the next thing you know, as you proceed to explore the lagoon, the water suddenly becomes really cold.

For safety reasons, it is advised that you swim with life jackets on, as the water level may be shallow in some areas, then can suddenly go very deep.

From the Twin Lagoon, we headed off to Siete Pecados where a cluster of seven small islands can be found. Legend has it that seven sisters went for a swim against their mother's orders. They drowned and, as a result, seven small islands sprouted from the sea.

The Siete Pecados is home to the Marine Sanctuary, which is an interesting snorkeling site.

This is Day 1 of our Coron, Palawan Tour; more of the island hopping adventures in the succeeding days of our four day Coron, Palawan Tour (Day 2).
